Features: The quality of English listening is primarily reflected in one's reaction to the pronunciation of learned English words, understanding of phrases, idioms, sentences, chunks, pauses, grasping the tone and mood of sentences, distinguishing between weak forms and linking in words, and comprehensively understanding Western cultural backgrounds and ways of thinking. While listening is not the only standard to judge English proficiency, poor listening skills can significantly hinder our English communication abilities. In our country, listening is almost the most feared part for all English learners in both exams and real-life applications. Many students "spend their hearts and minds" on it, yet the results remain unsatisfactory. The "New Curriculum Standards" specify a training volume of no less than 10 hours per year for levels one and two. For middle school students (level five), there is no explicit regulation on the amount of listening training. However, listening training is certainly the more, the better, as it helps establish a conditioned reflex between English words and pronunciation, forming good listening habits. The final requirement of listening training is familiarity with the cultural background knowledge of English-speaking countries, which is very important. This type of training covers a wide range, permeating all aspects of life, and cannot be solved by a single book. This book selects many novel and life-like dialogues or monologues for sections two and three of each test paper, some of which are somewhat challenging. We recommend that students focus on familiarizing themselves with the speaking habits and cultural backgrounds of English and American people, rather than just doing a few multiple-choice questions. Additionally, students should read extensively on related background knowledge to compensate for this deficiency.
