Features: Chinese sociology has gone through a very tortuous and difficult journey in the middle of the last century. It was indeed not easy for sociology to be rebuilt and develop to the current state in the 1980s. Many of our students may still be unfamiliar with the history of the discipline. I suggest that they learn about the emergence, development, interruption, and rebirth of sociology in China through classroom instruction and reading, so that they can appreciate the challenging fate of the discipline and recognize the historical responsibility they bear in rebuilding and promoting it. They should always keep this responsibility in mind in their future studies, research, and work. Today, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Sociology at Peking University, which is of great significance. Our generation of elders has already or is about to hand over the baton, but I firmly believe that the young generation of sociologists and anthropologists in China will carry forward this cause, making Chinese sociology and anthropology stand independently in the world academic community with a new face, and making due contributions to the rejuvenation of the nation and the establishment of a peaceful and harmonious human society.
