Ethnology and Anthropology are the earliest-established and most prestigious specialized disciplines at South-Central University for Nationalities. Since its founding in 1951, South-Central University for Nationalities established the Ethnological Research Institute, led by the renowned ethnologist and anthropologist Mr. Cen Jiawu. In 1981, with approval from the State Nationalities Committee, the Ministry-affiliated Ethnological Research Institute was established, led by the famous ethnologist and anthropologist Mr. Wu Zelin. This led to the formation of a research team combining experienced, middle-aged, and young scholars, gradually establishing the institute as a major hub for ethnological research in China.
