History of Drama Criticism in Guizhou

Author: Wang Yingtai

Features: Such forward-looking research further demonstrates his creative vitality. It also shows that while research in underdeveloped regions certainly faces unique challenges, it does not inevitably lead to backwardness and can still occupy the forefront of academic studies. Mao Zedong long advocated for writing "literary histories in the form of extended source compilations," yet it seemed no one responded. Now Yingtai has made such an attempt, and in itself, this may be a form of creativity. He does not shy away from the shortcomings and mistakes in theatrical work over the past few decades, but he also does not diminish the efforts and achievements of theatrical workers both within and outside Guizhou Province in inheriting and promoting the fine traditions of national culture, as well as in building a socialist theatrical culture with Chinese characteristics. Therefore, I believe this is a trustworthy historical account of Guizhou theatrical criticism.
To my knowledge, a theatrical criticism history for a province or region has yet to be published. Committed to tilling the southwestern frontier, Comrade Yingtai’s publication of this book may herald the appearance of more such works. I hold this hope. —— An Kui
