Sosa's husband passed away a few days ago, leaving her as a lonely old woman. Her children all wanted to take her in, but she couldn't bear to leave the old house where she had lived her entire life. That night, she couldn't sleep and got out of bed, pacing alone in the dark, flipping through old memories. Suddenly, she stumbled and fell, hitting her head on the edge of the table and unable to get up. In despair, only the fire emergency number—09—remained in her fading memory. In a half-conscious state, she grabbed the phone and dialed the number.
Larsen, the duty officer at the fire station, answered the ringing phone immediately: "Hello, this is the fire station. May I help you?" But after dialing, Sosa had used up her last bit of strength and slipped into a coma, unable to respond to Larsen's questions. Larsen could only hear her labored breathing through the phone. He patiently called out for a long time until a faint voice came through: "I can't go on. Please come and save me."
"Who are you? Where do you live? What happened?" Larsen asked urgently.
"I'm an old widow. I'm at home. I fell down," Sosa struggled to say.
"Please tell me your address, and we'll come right away!" Larsen said while signaling his assistant to prepare for action.
"But I... I really can't remember," Sosa replied in pain.
"Is it in the city?" Larsen asked quickly.
"Yes, yes. It's near the road. The lights in my house are very bright. I can't stand it anymore. Please come!" The person on the other end seemed to have lost consciousness, but only the faint sound of breathing could still be heard through the phone.
Help is needed as urgently as putting out a fire, but first, they had to find the old woman's address. Larsen looked at the phone still on the hook but unanswered, and at his colleagues ready for action. He made a bold decision.
Larsen's plan was to have the fire truck sound its siren while driving along the street. Since Sosa hadn't hung up, the siren's sound would travel through her phone to the station. Once the sound was detected, the crew would search nearby houses with lights on.
Sure enough, the high-pitched siren echoed loudly in the quiet night sky. Shortly after, someone excitedly called over the radio: "I heard it! I heard it!"
That way, Larsen quickly found Sosa, who was in critical condition. The siren is used to clear a path, but in a desperate moment, Larsen thought of using it to find someone, ultimately saving Sosa's life from the brink of death.
