Features: This book is divided into three parts: the first part covers basic theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM); the second part discusses common diseases and syndromes; and the third part focuses on acupuncture and moxibustion as well as Tuina therapy. Its features are as follows:
1. The textbook breaks away from the traditional method of purely textual descriptions in TCM teaching materials. It has adjusted the chapters on basic theoretical foundations and employs a combination of diagrams, tables, and text, integrating modern terminology with traditional TCM terms to illustrate concepts. This approach aims to facilitate the understanding of the differences in the perception of life phenomena between different medical systems for medical students in Western medical schools (both five-year and seven-year programs).
2. It emphasizes the introduction of recent research progress and prospects in TCM-related theories and herbal medicine both domestically and internationally. This is intended to enrich students' clinical diagnostic skills, broaden their perspectives, and lay a foundation for the development of integrated Chinese and Western medicine.
3. To enable students to further study and understand TCM, the book divides the teaching content into two parts: intensive reading (main textbook) and extensive reading (content included in key points and self-assessment exercises). It can serve as supplementary reading or in-depth learning material for students outside of class. Additionally, it can be used by instructors to select content based on class hours.
4. To strengthen students' professional English, all chapter titles in the textbook are presented in both Chinese and English. A bilingual glossary of professional terms is provided at the end of the book.
5. The book is accompanied by a teaching aid CD-ROM, which includes English vocabulary, chapter teaching outlines, and herbal medicine illustrations. It can be used as a teaching presentation or self-study material. The book has undergone reforms and explorations in teaching methods and content organization, making it suitable for the professional learning needs of five-year medical students.
