Features: This book is the planned teaching material of the Ministry of Health, with a total of 500,000 words. This edition of the textbook has undergone significant revisions and corrections compared to the previous version. The book highlights the fundamental content and methods of medicinal botany and pharmacognosy. The botanical section has been streamlined to reduce morphological descriptions, while the pharmacognostical section is organized by family and genus. It also incorporates new technologies, methods, and achievements in natural drug research from recent years both domestically and internationally. Medicinal botany is a foundational course for pharmacy professionals, and this textbook aims to strengthen the professional training objectives, cultivating intermediate practical talents. The syllabus contains extensive content, but due to space limitations, some parts of the syllabus have been adjusted.
1. Adjust the textbook structure by merging the macroscopic plant morphology section with the microscopic plant anatomy section. This saves space and facilitates students in learning the organs of the plant body progressively from the outside to the inside, from the superficial to the profound, and from the macroscopic to the microscopic.
2. Remove some non-key families from the syllabus, such as Moraceae, Aristolochiaceae, Amaranthaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Berberidaceae, Papaveraceae, Euonymaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Malvaceae, Oleaceae, Gentianaceae, Asclepiadaceae, Rubiaceae, Dioscoreaceae, and Zingiberaceae. Add the Apiaceae and Araliaceae, which are commonly used and important medicinal plant families.
3. The microscopic structure of flowers, fruits, seeds, and the bases of true fern leaf stalks are introduced in pharmacognosy.
4. Strengthen experimental teaching to cultivate practical talents. The syllabus states that medicinal botany is a highly practical discipline, laying the foundation for pharmacognosy. Due to the limited number of experimental hours stipulated in the syllabus, it is difficult to complete the prescribed experimental content. It is recommended that, while keeping the total number of hours unchanged, universities can appropriately adjust the ratio of theoretical to experimental hours.
