Features: The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon consists of Suwen and Lingshu, and is one of the earliest medical classics in China, believed to have been compiled during the Warring States to Western Han periods. It comprehensively reflects the medical achievements of ancient China, established the theoretical system of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), laid the foundation for the development of TCM, and has continuously guided its progress. Even today, it remains of significant research value.
Lingshu consists of 12 volumes and 81 chapters, covering a vast range of topics. Guided by the holistic concept and based on the theory of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, it elaborates in detail on human physiology, pathology, diagnosis, treatment, and health preservation. It comprehensively explains the five zang organs, six fu organs, spiritual energy (qi), blood, body fluids, and human temperament types, serving as a fundamental source of TCM theory.
Particularly noteworthy is its detailed recording of meridian and acupoint theory and acupuncture methods. For example, its discussion of acupuncture not only emphasizes the importance of maintaining mental focus (shou shen) and sensing qi, but also proposes dozens of acupuncture techniques. It also provides detailed introductions on acupuncture tools, locations, depths, contraindications, and the relationship between acupuncture and the four seasons, laying a solid foundation for the development of acupuncture in later generations.
Due to its early compilation and the transmission through handwritten copies and printing over the centuries, errors, omissions, and distortions have occurred, making it difficult for researchers to verify the original text. However, due to the limitations of the era and individual interpretations, many unresolved issues remain, which can pose challenges for readers. To address this, the book has been thoroughly revised in this edition, using the 1963 lead-printed corrected version published by the People's Health Publishing House as the base text. An index of important terms is appended at the end for the convenience of readers.
