Features: The Wanjiazhai Yellow River Diversion Project is a large-scale water transfer project completed in Shanxi Province in 2002. The project is highly challenging and technologically complex, earning it the title of a "challenging world-class project" from World Bank experts. During the construction phase and the initial stages of water delivery operation, the Shanxi Yellow River Water Transfer to Shanxi Project Leadership Group, in order to achieve sustainable operation of the project and promote the sustainable development of the water supply area, adopted effective measures based on scientific research and evidence. These measures include optimizing the allocation of various water sources in the supply area, establishing no-extraction zones and restricted-extraction zones, reversing the long-term over-extraction of groundwater, adjusting and reforming the water price system in the supply area, expanding the scope of the water supply area, expanding the water market, and establishing a water resources management and dispatching system. These efforts have preliminarily achieved positive social, economic, and environmental benefits, providing a successful model and reference for the construction and operation of large-scale water transfer projects under market economy conditions. This book is intended for use by planners, constructors, and management personnel of large-scale water conservancy projects, as well as government leaders and officials in planning, water affairs, pricing, and urban construction departments in water-receiving areas of water transfer projects.
