Features: In the early 1990s, cities in North America faced increasingly severe urban problems due to the uncontrolled sprawl of suburbs. A new urban planning and design philosophy was proposed, advocating for the inspiration from the excellent traditions of small towns and town planning in the United States before World War II. It aimed to shape compact communities with a small-town atmosphere to replace the suburban sprawl model, termed "New Urbanism." In recent years, the concept of "New Urbanism" has also been adopted in real estate development and urban planning across various regions of China. To systematically introduce the ideas and principles of North American New Urbanism to Chinese readers, to absorb the essence of New Urbanism, to explore the path of urban development in China, and to provide research theories and methods for the development of residential real estate, we have compiled this book. The book is divided into two main parts. The first part primarily introduces the concept, research methods, philosophy, planning principles, practical activities, impacts, achievements, and the ideal and real dilemmas of North American New Urbanism. The second part explores the Chinese path of New Urbanism, introducing its development in China and the understanding of New Urbanism by Chinese academia and the real estate industry. Based on an analysis of the theoretical and practical significance of New Urbanism for China, it proposes a New Urbanism with Chinese characteristics tailored to the specific conditions of the country. Finally, it introduces the application of New Urbanism in recent years by Wanda Group. The book is rich in content, clear in structure, and fluent in language. It is one of the earlier comprehensive introductions to the ideas of North American New Urbanism in China and reflects Wanda Group's original intention to focus on social development and improving the human and living environment from the perspectives of real estate development and urban construction.
