Features: Urban water supply is a vital infrastructure that ensures the economic development and daily lives of cities. To accelerate technological progress in the urban water supply industry and elevate China's water supply technology to a new level, forming a new productive force to meet the demands of current large-scale urban construction development, the Ministry of Construction commissioned the China Urban Water Supply Association to organize the writing of the "Development Plan for Technological Progress in the Urban Water Supply Industry by 2000." The goal was to make it a guiding monograph for the technological development of China's urban water supply industry, serving as a guide for urban water supply facility construction and technological upgrades, research and design in water supply technology, and the application of specialized equipment, instruments, and materials. This "Plan" consists of a main topic and 27 sub-topics. The main topic discusses the current situation and status of China's water supply industry, comparing it with the international level and domestic conditions of the water supply sector. It proposes the main focus areas of improving urban water supply quality, enhancing supply safety and reliability, reducing water loss, lowering energy consumption, and reducing chemical consumption, setting forth the goals and requirements for technological progress in urban water supply enterprises across China. The 27 sub-topics are categorized by water supply processes and provide detailed discussions on specific technical topics. They offer extensive research data, charts, calculation results, and supporting evidence; list advanced international technological achievements, equipment, instruments, and technical standards, providing comparative conclusions and identifying major gaps between domestic and international practices. They summarize the current status of each technical topic and outline future development trends, proposing improvement suggestions, technical measures, and countermeasures. This book is primarily intended as a reference for urban water supply design, research, and waterworks companies when implementing this "Plan," but it can also serve as a teaching reference for disciplines such as water supply and drainage, environmental engineering, and relevant university courses.
