Features: The 7th "Huanai Huai" Chinese Interior Design Competition, organized by the Interior Design Branch of the China Institute of Architectural Sciences in 2003, has already been held. Looking back at the (submitted works) from the past seven years, it can be seen that the trajectory of China's interior design development has been revealed. Through years of design practice and theoretical discussions by a large number of designers, a design model that only focused on form has gradually given way to a greater emphasis on the (substance) of design. Functional requirements, circulation organization, and the broad consideration of the physical environment and cultural taste of the interior have been given more attention. Years of relentless effort have led to continuous improvement in our design (level), with works gradually becoming more mature. The competition has timely reflected these changes in the design field. Through post-competition national exhibitions of (submitted works), selected collections of (excellent works), and the issuance of CDs, the results have been presented to more designers and the public for observation and (exchange). New design concepts have been quickly adopted, leading to an annual improvement in the level of China's interior design. The new works that emerge from this progress, in turn, influence other designers. The competition has thus become a powerful driving force in the development of China's interior design.
However, many issues still face us, such as humanized design, green design, and sustainability. The application of new technologies, the full utilization of natural energy, and the selection of environmentally friendly decorative materials all require designers to think, research, and explore. Future competitions will further reflect these challenges.
The scale of the 2003 competition was 1.5 times that of 2002, with over 1,000 participating projects, 1,585 display boards, and a total of 2,457 participants, surpassing any previous edition. The most notable feature of this year's (submitted works) is that the gaps between them have narrowed on the basis of further improved design (level), and regional differences have also gradually faded. At the same time, the emergence of a new generation of designers has also become a highlight of this competition. Among the winning designers, many new faces of middle-aged and young designers have appeared, indicating that the interior design team is growing stronger.
Now is an era of rising new talents, and a large number of outstanding middle-aged and young designers have become the backbone of China's interior design. Huanai Group not only sponsored this competition but also, together with the society, organized designer salons in ten major cities before the competition for promotion and mobilization, playing a significant role in (promoting) the development of the competition. We extend our gratitude for this contribution.
We look forward to the support and participation of all interior designers and believe that future interior design competitions will be even better.
