The buildings listed in this book are essentially the essence of three batches of outstanding modern protected buildings formulated successively by relevant departments of the Shanghai Municipal Government. The authors believe that these buildings are relatively well-known, but they do not exclude the possibility that buildings not included in this book are also classics. Some classic buildings, such as the Grand World, the French Club, and the Riding Club, have already been included in another volume of the "Old Shanghai Architecture" series titled "Disappeared Old Shanghai Architecture," so they are not repeated here.
