Features: However, due to a large historical debt and weak foundation, China's road and waterway transportation still do not meet the needs of national economy and social development in terms of quantity, structure, technology, and management, and there remains a significant gap compared to Western developed countries. The main issues are as follows: insufficient total amount of transportation infrastructure, with short highway mileage, low density, and low standards—only 14.6 kilometers of highways per 100 square kilometers, and only 13.5% of highways being grade II or above; outdated transportation equipment, resulting in low transportation efficiency and service levels; the unified and open, competitive and orderly transportation market is still in its infancy, and the operation of the transportation construction market is not yet standardized; the transportation structure is unreasonable, and the task of restructuring is still quite challenging; the level of technological development cannot meet the needs of transportation development. There are many weak links in infrastructure construction, transportation organization management, transportation safety, and environmental protection. The work of transportation is a long and arduous journey. Transforming transportation from a traditional industry to a modern industry and achieving the modernization of China's transportation are a glorious yet arduous task facing leaders at all levels, especially those in transportation departments.
