Features: The history of ancient Chinese coins. In the long history of ancient society, it has developed an independent path, creating a coin culture with unique characteristics. As the medium of exchange for commodity transactions, ancient coins played a significant role in developing the economy and commodity exchange, directly reflecting the social and economic development and changes of different historical periods, as well as embodying the will of the state. They greatly promoted economic exchanges between regions in China, advancing the development of the economy, trade, and culture. They also influenced neighboring countries, strengthening economic and cultural exchanges with the outside world.
Although ancient Chinese coins are small in size, their scope is vast. In addition to the mainstream bronze coins, they also cast coins made of iron, lead, tin, gold, silver, paper, and other materials, enriching the means of coin circulation. In terms of coin production techniques, from manual to mechanical manufacturing, they reflect the extraordinary ingenuity of the working people. In the script of coin inscriptions, they employed calligraphy styles such as Seal, Clerical, Regular, Running, and Cursive, reaching the peak of coin inscriptions in the Song Dynasty. Even emperors personally inscribed coin texts, taking the combination of coins and calligraphy art to an extreme level. At the same time, from the Han Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, coins reflecting folk customs and sentiments also appeared. This practice of incorporating and prayers for good fortune into coins was another great innovation in ancient Chinese coin culture, greatly enriching it.
Moreover, China not only has a long history of coin casting but also a very long history of studying coins. Since the Southern Dynasties of Xiao Liang, countless scholars have devoted themselves to researching and documenting coins without interruption, pushing the study of ancient Chinese coins in broader directions.
