Features: The term that Zhou Zuoren most frequently used to describe his own theories and writings is "" (heterogeneous). He repeatedly lamented the diversity of his intellectual influences, referring to his reading as "" (random reading). During a certain period, he called his writings that blended various styles "" (heterogeneous essays). He proudly declared that he was not willing to be included in either the "Record of Confucian Scholars" or the "Record of Literary Scholars," but rather delighted in being recognized as a "heterogeneous scholar." The entire book is based on Zhou Zuoren's essay "My Heterodox Studies" and selects thirty-one essays from the ten volumes of "Zhou Zuoren's Literary Anthology," edited by Zhong Shuhe, and organizes them into three parts: "China," "The West," and "The East." Among these, "Heterodox Studies 18," which discusses foreign languages, is interspersed into both the "The West" and "The East" sections according to Zhou Zuoren's translation work. "Heterodox Studies 19," which discusses Buddhist scriptures, is represented by the essay "On Precepts" and is included in the "China" section. The essay "My Heterodox Studies" itself serves as an "outline" and is placed at the beginning of the three sections.
