This book is the fourth volume in the New Concept Reading series, designed for students and self-learners to enhance their English reading skills while learning and exploring knowledge across various disciplines. All reading passages in this book revolve around four fundamental concepts: first, some things are not as they appear; second, people's perceptions of things change over time; third, different groups view the same idea or concept in distinct ways; and fourth, similar things undergo changes at different rates across the world. The reading passages are compiled using a wide range of materials from different disciplines that reflect these concepts, covering history, art, biology, economics, earth science, space science, political science, engineering, anthropology, and geography, among others. The purpose of this approach is to ensure that learners with interests in various disciplines can find content that suits them. Additionally, the book includes several folk tales or legends. Difficult vocabulary and their explanations, as well as some proper nouns, are listed in the order of the passages on pages 6-12 of the book. Each reading passage is followed by carefully designed comprehension exercises to help readers assess their reading progress.
