Publishing Date: 2003-12-01
Features: This textbook series consists of six levels, with one book for each level, covering intensive reading, extensive reading, rapid reading, and listening instruction, all designed according to graded teaching requirements. The grammar and exercises section is divided into four levels, suitable for grades 1–4. Both the intensive reading and listening instruction books are accompanied by teacher's manuals and audio cassettes; the extensive reading books for all six levels also include teacher's manuals. For students below the curriculum's entry-level requirements, two preparatory-level books for intensive reading and extensive reading have been separately compiled. The entire series was developed collaboratively by Fudan University, Peking University, East China Normal University, Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, and Nanjing University, with Dong Yafen of Fudan University serving as the chief editor. The entire membership of the Comprehensive College English Editorial Group of the former College Foreign Language Textbook Review Committee has consistently monitored the design and development of this series. This revision was carried out after extensively soliciting feedback from teachers across the country who have used this series and through questionnaires distributed to thousands of educators and students. The Comprehensive College Foreign Language Teaching Guidance Committee provided comprehensive guidance and support for the revision. The guiding principle of this revision is "Facing the 21st century, elevating college English teaching to a new level." Based on the specific needs of each book, the revised edition has made appropriate adjustments to the texts, increased the coverage of curriculum vocabulary and the frequency of common words, further refined the exercises, and emphasized the practice of key vocabulary. At the same time, it has strengthened the horizontal connections between the different books, ensuring each is self-contained yet complementary, forming a cohesive whole. The revised edition pays greater attention to its applicability across disciplines such as humanities, science, engineering, agriculture, and medicine, aiming to equip students with a "broad, deep, and solid" language foundation.
