Features: For a large number of English learners in China, one important way to improve English is through extensive reading. The quality of reading materials directly affects learners' learning outcomes. To this end, Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press has introduced and published this series of New Concept Reading from McGraw-Hill, one of the largest educational publishing groups in the United States. This book is the seventh volume in the New Concept Reading series, designed for students and self-learners to enhance their English reading skills while learning and understanding knowledge from various disciplines. All reading passages in this book revolve around four fundamental concepts: first, some things are not as they appear; second, people's perceptions of things change over time; third, different groups view the same idea or concept in different ways; and fourth, similar things change at different rates across the world. The reading passages are written using materials from a wide range of disciplines that reflect these concepts, including history, art, biology, economics, earth science, space science, political science, engineering, anthropology, and geography. This approach ensures that learners with interests in different subjects will find content that suits them. Additionally, the book includes several folk tales or legends. Difficult vocabulary and their explanations, as well as some proper nouns, are listed in order of the passages on pages 6-12 of the book. Each reading passage is followed by carefully designed comprehension exercises to help readers assess their reading progress.
