Is there a relationship between ADHD and genetic factors?

Patient's question:

My son has ADHD, and is there a relationship between ADHD in children and genetic factors? How can it be prevented?

Doctor's answer:

Approximately 40% of parents, siblings, and other relatives of children with ADHD also had this disease during their childhood. The incidence rate of ADHD in monozygotic twins is significantly higher than in dizygotic twins. The prevalence rate of ADHD among siblings with ADHD is higher than that among siblings with different fathers (half-siblings), and also higher than in the general population. All of these indicate that genetic factors are closely related to ADHD.
