What exactly is university about?

Author: Qin Baoxi
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-09-01
Features: The author, as both a successful entrepreneur and a recent college graduate, combines his own experiences in studying, job hunting, and entrepreneurship to have an in-depth and comprehensive discussion with college students about the issues they should pay attention to in various aspects of their lives, including learning, daily life, postgraduate entrance exams, studying abroad, job hunting, and entrepreneurship. The viewpoints presented are novel, comprehensive, profound, and practical. Many of the author's ideas completely contradict mainstream views, making him a traditional disruptor for those who adhere to golden rules. For example, while most people believe skipping classes is a sign of lack of ambition, the author argues that students who don’t skip classes are not good students. Many also consider postgraduate entrance exams to be the best, or even the only, path for college students, but the author compares it to a painful, comfortable death. If you find the author’s viewpoints unacceptable while browsing the table of contents, don’t let that stop you from reading this book. The author wrote this book simply to engage in an equal exchange of ideas with you as someone who has been through it all. The book cites numerous examples, many of which are drawn from the author’s real-life experiences. The college graduates living around the author are more vivid and authentic than any authoritative case study. Although you may dream of becoming a figure like Bill Gates, the greater likelihood is that you will end up being one of the ordinary college graduates mentioned in the book: finding a satisfactory job after graduation, commuting to work by bus, hoping for promotions and salary increases from your boss, and finally choosing to start your own business at the right time. Please forgive me for not being able to free you from this ordinary pattern. What I can do is help you move faster, more steadily, and more solidly along this path.
