Publish Date: 2000-10-01
Features: This book is composed of the following sections:
1. The text consists of complete or excerpted articles selected from Japanese books, newspapers, and magazines, each accompanied by relevant supplementary reading materials. The text is followed by a reference translation.
2. Vocabulary: Approximately 50 to 100 new words per lesson are included, featuring specialized terms and compound words not typically found in general dictionaries. As this volume focuses on developing reading skills, tones are no longer marked for vocabulary. Additionally, prefixes, suffixes, and compound words in the glossary are not labeled with parts of speech.
3. Explanations: Mainly cover challenging word usage, with each explanation supported by three example sentences. The examples are selected from original novels, essays, and other sources. Due to space constraints, longer sentences may be slightly shortened.
4. Grammar: The main text includes "Expression and Grammar," primarily focusing on sentence patterns to ensure clarity and conciseness. Each pattern is paired with six carefully selected example sentences to enhance understanding and application.
5. Exercises: Carefully designed to reinforce and expand on the text content, further improving the reader's self-study abilities. To enhance learners' autonomy, the supplementary reading materials in the exercises are not provided with separate translations.
6. Appendices: The textbook appendices are divided into five sections. Appendix I is the master vocabulary list, Appendix II is the explanation summary, Appendix III is the grammar summary, Appendix IV is the exercise answer key, and Appendix V is the text reference translation.
