This companion book is designed to accompany the College English Intensive Reading textbook published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. The purpose of this book is to embody a student-centered approach, starting from the actual needs of students and fully considering the various difficulties they encounter in learning English. It aims to save students valuable time and improve their learning efficiency. The specific features are as follows:
1. Text Translation and Detailed Explanation of Difficulties are arranged at the beginning of each unit, making it especially convenient for students to follow the teacher’s lectures. For difficulties encountered during lectures, students can refer to the translation on the left side or compare and consult the detailed explanations on the right side, thereby doubling their learning efficiency.
2. Text Annotations and Translations. Many students find it hard to understand the English annotations in the texts, so we have translated all the annotations into Chinese. We believe this will greatly benefit students in previewing the texts.
3. Since most of the texts in the textbook are derived from English originals, their wide range of topics, profound ideas, and complex backgrounds make it difficult for students from different cultural backgrounds to grasp them. To help students better understand the essence of the texts, we have included a "Background Knowledge of Texts" section.
4. Based on the College English Teaching Syllabus and the CET Syllabus, we provide detailed explanations of key vocabulary in the texts. 8. Considering the special importance of reading comprehension, which accounts for 40% of the CET exam, we have specially included reading skill guidance and translations of reading materials in the textbook to help students pay due attention to reading.
9. In the CET exam, writing accounts for 15%. Past CET exam experience shows that without regular writing practice, it is difficult to achieve ideal scores. 10. The last item in each unit is the CET Achievement Test and Explanation. This is a comprehensive test for each unit, with question types and difficulty levels similar to the CET exam.
