Publishing Date: 2002-02-01
Features: The first edition of English Listening Practice (StepbyStep, hereinafter referred to as Listening Practice) has officially bid farewell after fifteen years. Listening Practice 2000 is divided into four volumes and is designed for English majors in colleges and universities for listening courses. It can also be used by postgraduate students, undergraduate students, and scientific and technological personnel from other disciplines with a high level of English proficiency. Listening Practice 2000 is an extension of Listening Practice. It still adheres to the principle of emphasizing both content and listening skills, focusing on the authenticity and typicality of the selected materials, and consistently prioritizing the development of students' listening comprehension and thinking abilities. Listening Practice 2000 goes beyond Listening Practice. It adopts entirely new listening materials and pays more attention to the overall thematic layout across the four volumes. This book consists of four volumes and twelve units. The chapter structure and purpose of each unit are largely consistent with the first three volumes. However, the selection of content materials reflects different emphases: the first volume focuses on outlining some macro changes and characteristics of contemporary society; the content of the second volume primarily revolves around the healthy growth of students in terms of their professional development, emotional maturity, and physical fitness; the third volume draws students' attention to the world, including important news reports and achievements in areas such as international politics, economy, science and technology, and transportation; and the fourth volume, as the final volume of the entire series, finally focuses on practical aspects such as society, education, work, and family, aiming to guide students to face the future and reflect on both the objective and subjective worlds.
