Features: This book is a supplementary text for the second volume of "University French in the New Century" student workbook. In its compilation, it follows the structure of the student workbook and has the following characteristics: 1. It is structured by units and sections, with the student workbook organized around commonly used themes in French culture and daily life, each unit highlighting a specific theme. Within a unit, it is further divided into four sections: Grammar and Practice (Grammaire et pratique), Vocabulary and Practice (Vocabulaire et pratique), Language Activities Centered on Reading Comprehension (Activités de compréhension écrite), and Language Activities Centered on Listening (Activités orales). The teacher workbook is also largely based on the structure of the student workbook, with targeted content. This unit and section structure offers the following advantages: 1) It groups similar functional-notional items relatively together in the same unit, making it easier for teachers to organize instruction and for students to practice. The objectives of teaching activities are clear, making the teaching more focused. 2) It facilitates the high frequency of vocabulary that expresses the same functional-notional items, aiding students in association and memory. Each grammar or vocabulary item is immediately followed by exercises, making the training highly targeted and the teaching effect effective. 2. Emphasizes guided instruction and post-class learning
Guided by the student-centered teaching philosophy, we recommend in this teacher workbook that all exercises be completed by students in pairs or small groups during class, advocating for teachers to guide students' language practice while rejecting the traditional one-on-one (teacher vs. student) teaching model. Teachers provide collective guidance on language points, while all language activities are carried out autonomously by students. This book not only includes answers to exercises and translations of main texts but also provides detailed grammar supplements and teaching suggestions, allowing teachers to focus more on teaching organization. Considering the lack of resources among university French teachers, it is supplemented with rich background materials. To give teachers more control, these sections are all written in French. Student self-learning remains the guiding principle of the "University French in the New Century" series of textbooks. In the post-class reading section of the student workbook, teachers are only responsible for checking rather than explaining in class. The self-listening section is entirely completed by students independently after class.
