Features: This book is a supplementary guide for the Student Book of University French in the New Century, Volume 3. During its compilation, it adheres to the structure of the Student Book and possesses the following characteristics:
1. The book is organized into units and sections, mirroring the structure of the Student Book. The Student Book is divided into units based on commonly used themes in French culture and daily life, with each unit highlighting a specific topic. Within a unit, it is further divided into four sections: Grammar and Practice (Grammaire et pratique), Vocabulary and Practice (Vocabulaire et pratique), Language Activities Centered on Reading Comprehension (Activités de compréhension écrite), and Language Activities Centered on Listening (Activités orales). The Teacher Book is also structured similarly to the Student Book, with targeted content. This unit and section structure offers the following advantages:
1) It groups function-meaning items with similar functions relatively together in the same unit, facilitating teachers' lesson organization and students' practice. The objectives of teaching activities are clear, making teaching more focused.
2) It allows for frequent repetition of vocabulary that expresses the same function-meaning, aiding students in association and memorization. Each grammar or vocabulary item is immediately followed by exercises, making the training highly targeted and effective.
2. Emphasis on Guided Teaching and After-Class Learning
Following the student-centered teaching philosophy, this Teacher Book recommends that all exercises be completed in pairs or small groups during class. It advocates for teachers to guide students' language practice while rejecting the traditional one-on-one (teacher-student) teaching model. Teachers provide collective guidance on language points, while all language activities are carried out autonomously by students. The book includes exercise answers, translations of main texts, detailed grammar supplements, and pedagogical suggestions, allowing teachers to focus more on lesson organization. Considering the lack of resources among French teachers, it also provides rich background materials. These sections are written in French to give teachers greater autonomy.
Student self-learning remains the guiding principle of the University French in the New Century series. In the after-class reading section of the Student Book, teachers are only responsible for checking comprehension in class but do not provide explanations. The self-listening section is entirely completed by students after class. This volume consists of 10 units, with each unit covering 7 hours of study.
