Features: New Interchange, published by Cambridge, is one of the most popular and influential English textbooks internationally. It summarizes eight years of classroom teaching experience worldwide, improves the original Interchange through extensive feedback from students and teachers, and makes comprehensive revisions. The main updates include: new conversation exercises, new cultural snapshots, new reading exercises, more comprehensive grammar explanations and practice, and richer listening materials. At the same time, the teacher's book, workbook, and video content have also been extensively revised. New Interchange is a large-scale English textbook designed for learners in non-English-speaking countries. The content covers four skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—as well as pronunciation training and vocabulary expansion. It particularly emphasizes the development of listening and speaking skills. The primary goal of this book is to cultivate English communicative competence, i.e., the ability to flexibly use English based on communicative contexts, purposes, and audiences. The book mainly uses American English, but its content is not limited to any single country, region, or culture. Instead, it reflects the richness and diversity of English as a global lingua franca. This textbook is divided into four levels: Introductory, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.
Introductory Level: Designed for "true" beginners with no English foundation, it explains basic grammar structures, vocabulary, and language functions.
Level 1: Aimed at learners with a basic English level, it further develops grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, enabling learners to reach a low-intermediate level.
Level 2: Targeted at learners with a low-intermediate English level, it further enhances grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, helping learners achieve an intermediate level.
Level 3: For learners with a middle-intermediate English level, it focuses on developing the ability to communicate in relatively fluent and accurate English.
This textbook uses a variety of thought-provoking and challenging exercises to help students further consolidate and develop their communicative skills in English. In addition to applied skills exercises, the textbook also includes advanced discourse comprehension exercises. Listening exercises include: listening to narratives, listening to advertisements, listening to discussions, and listening to interviews. Reading activities include: cross-cultural communication themes, lifestyle themes, themes of different values, and other authentic reading passages. After completing all four levels, learners can reach a mid-high-intermediate level.
