Features: New College English is a textbook developed based on the "Student-Centered Thematic Teaching Model," with levels 1 to 6, available in both Student Books and Teacher Books. Level 3 is the third level, consisting of 12 units, divided into Part 1 and Part 2. Each unit is composed of four parts: (1) Preparation Activities; (2) Listening-Centered Language Activities; (3) Reading-Centered Language Activities; (4) Consolidation and Improvement. The Preparation Activities aim to spark students' interest in the content of the unit, broaden their thinking, and help them enter an active language learning state. The Listening-Centered and Reading-Centered Language Activities are designed to enable students to acquire a large amount of comprehensible language input, improve their language skills, and then engage in various language activities based on this foundation. In-class reading materials are provided in a detachable format and distributed to students by the teacher before reading. Consolidation and Improvement Activities are conducted after students have completed all in-class (1) and extracurricular (3) reading materials for the unit. At this point, students have had some exposure to and understanding of the content, vocabulary, and expressions related to the same theme. Through these comprehensive language activities, their application skills are further enhanced. Each unit revolves around a theme, incorporating reading, listening, speaking, writing, and translation activities, with the goal of cultivating students' comprehensive language application skills. Since the development of language skills is inseparable and mutually supportive, the integrated application of these skills is also required in real language environments. The materials selected for this textbook are language-standardized, contemporary, informative, engaging, and thought-provoking. The diverse classroom activities encourage students to think actively, participate consciously, acquire knowledge, explore cultural insights, and improve their abilities. At the end of the 12 units, there is a self-assessment test for students, along with answers for self-checking. Each section of the self-assessment test includes a certain number of test questions designed to assess comprehensive language application skills, with novel, reasonable, and effective question types. Both in-class and extracurricular reading materials come with glossaries. In this textbook, words are explained in both Chinese and English, accompanied by numerous example sentences to facilitate student comprehension. Vocabulary for levels 4 and 6 is clearly marked, and derivatives of level 4 and 6 vocabulary are indicated with an asterisk (). The level 4 vocabulary includes common meanings. Additionally, vocabulary, paragraph translation, and writing exercises are strengthened. For example, "Enriching Your Word Power" compares the different meanings of words already learned, helping students grasp the new connotations of familiar words, which is something glossaries alone cannot address. Continuously expanding the meanings of learned words is also a crucial aspect of improving vocabulary skills. New College English is accompanied by an autonomous listening practice book for extracurricular use, Listening Practice, available for levels 1 to 4. Each level consists of 12 units, with two lessons per unit, all centered around the same theme. Each level includes listening exercises and quizzes, along with the written transcripts of all audio materials and answers to exercises and quizzes to facilitate self-study. The materials are fresh, diverse in topic, rich in content, and highly engaging, with lively exercise formats that stimulate students' interest in self-study. The entire textbook adopts the "Student-Centered Thematic Teaching Model." Vocabulary, listening, and reading all comply with the requirements and quantitative indicators of the new syllabus. The skills of reading, listening, speaking, writing, and translation are also developed according to the two levels specified in the new syllabus: "strong reading ability and a certain level of listening, speaking, writing, and translation ability." The "Student-Centered" approach aims to understand and reflect the students' needs in terms of knowledge, intelligence, emotions, and personality. "Thematic Teaching" refers to selecting language samples closely related to students' campus and social lives based on themes. At the same time, it provides students with a large amount of interconnected language materials and vocabulary that meet their cognitive needs. The high frequency of vocabulary repetition facilitates association and memorization.
