Features: The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is a large-scale language proficiency test jointly organized by the Japan Foundation and the Japan International Education Association under the Ministry of Education of Japan, aimed at non-native speakers of Japanese. The former is responsible for administering the test domestically, while the latter handles it abroad. From 1984 to 1999, the test was implemented 16 times. This book collects all the questions from the JLPT levels 1 to 4 from 1991 to 1999. At the same time, we attempt to provide some insights that can provoke readers' reflection through a review and analysis of the development and changes of this exam. The JLPT, jointly organized by the Japan Foundation and the Japan International Education Association, has been implemented for 16 years in and outside Japan from 1984 to 1999. Today, it has become a language proficiency test with significant international influence. China has a vast number of Japanese enthusiasts, learners, and institutions at all levels engaged in Japanese teaching and research. The JLPT has not only attracted widespread attention from the aforementioned individuals and institutions but has also objectively become a standard for measuring people's Japanese learning proficiency and application ability. At the same time, we have seen that the test is also having a positive impact in areas such as studying in Japan, recruitment and assessment in Japanese companies. As a result, the number of people taking the test in various examination centers across the country (including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) has been increasing in recent years. According to incomplete statistics, Chinese candidates taking the test in China (excluding Taiwan) and Japan account for more than one-third of the total number of participants in recent years. If the number of participants from Taiwan is added, the proportion of Chinese candidates would be even higher. Compared to such enthusiastic and urgent learning needs, the current situation of reference materials for the test in China has not met expectations. This is not only reflected in the lack of officially published reference materials compared to Japan but also in the serious infringement of intellectual property rights within China. As a result, on one hand, it brings many inconveniences to a large number of learners, and on the other hand, it exposes relevant Chinese authorities to many avoidable criticisms and criticisms from the outside. Moved by this, we have tried to change the situation through our own efforts. To provide more authoritative and detailed review materials for readers in China, especially for those who will take this exam, to provide more systematic and rich research materials for those engaged in Japanese teaching and research, and to more effectively promote the development of Japanese teaching and research to a higher level, we—several former Japanese students—have jointly compiled this "Japanese Language Proficiency Test Questions and Answers 1991–1999" to serve the readers. The questions included in this book are all the questions from levels 1 to 4 of the test from 1991 to 1999 over nine years. They are divided into four volumes according to the four levels of the exam. Each volume is arranged by year and also follows the order of the exam sections. The listening comprehension section is accompanied by audio tapes for each year's questions. To reflect the completeness and practicality of the questions, we have appended the passing criteria for the exam. In addition, we have included answer sheets and scoring standards for each year's questions for reference. For printing and convenience of use, the format of this printing is the same as that of the domestically published version in Japan, slightly smaller than the exam format. In addition to the questions, we have specially invited two experts—Mr. Nishikawa Taiyo and Ms. Mizuno Ko—who have long been engaged in Japanese teaching and are very familiar with the Japanese learning situation of Chinese students in Japan, as well as those with expertise in theoretical research and Sino-Japanese cultural exchanges—to write articles for the readers, introducing how to improve learning efficiency and how to perform well in the exam. We believe that the opinions of these two experts will be helpful to everyone. In addition, based on extensive and in-depth research, we have provided readers with a comprehensive analysis article, the data for which is very valuable. Through this analysis, we hope to help readers gain a more comprehensive understanding of the exam and focus their review on their weaknesses, conducting planned and targeted training. After each volume of questions, we have appended 10 experience-sharing articles selected from numerous submitted works. The authors of these articles come from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jilin, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hunan, and other provinces and cities, with an average age of 30. They took the exam in Tokyo, Kansai, Kyushu regions in Japan, and Beijing in China. The highest score was 389. They are now active both in China and Japan. We hope that their personal experiences will help readers re-examine their learning, identify their weaknesses, and leverage their strengths to strive for good results in the exam. To uphold the seriousness of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test itself and related publications, and to demonstrate the compilers' respect for the intellectual property rights—copyright and author's rights—of the exam organizing institutions and the original question authors, the compilation committee formally applied to the Japan Foundation in Japan in February of this year and obtained permission to publish the questions and answers from 1991 to 1999 in China. Subsequently, the compilation committee spent more than two months obtaining publishing and reproduction permissions from nearly 100 renowned question authors and relevant publishing houses one by one.
