Features: ListentoThis is a listening course series developed according to the requirements of the Teaching Syllabus for the Basic Stage of English Teaching in Higher Education and the Teaching Syllabus for the Advanced Stage of English Teaching in Higher Education, published by the State Education Commission, tailored to the characteristics of English teaching in China. The entire series consists of three volumes. Each volume includes a Student's Book and a Teacher's Book, which serve different purposes but complement each other.
Volume 1 is suitable for first-year university students or beginners in English. Volume 2 is designed for second-year university students and self-learners with intermediate English proficiency. Volume 3 is available for third- and fourth-year university students and self-learners with advanced English skills.
The Teacher's Book includes recorded materials, exercises with answers, and supplementary reading materials. The content of this book is fresh, with listening materials selected from audio resources from the late 1980s abroad. The recordings were reviewed by Canadian experts working at Beijing Foreign Studies University, primarily in standard American or British accents, with clear audio. The exercises are lively in format. The design of the exercises draws inspiration from the formats of the U.S. TOEFL exam and British exams, and includes additional forms such as true-or-false questions, fill-in-the-blanks, dictation, lecture summaries, and answering questions based on notes.
Each volume includes a Student's Book and a Teacher's Book, which serve different purposes but complement each other.
The Student's Book focuses on vocabulary lists from the recorded materials, cultural background notes, and accompanying exercises. ListentoThis 3 is suitable for third- and fourth-year university students and self-learners with advanced English skills. The listening materials are primarily selected from radio and television broadcasts in the United States. The book is divided into 36 lessons, each consisting of three parts: 1. Brief news; 2. Important news reports; 3. Special interviews. The content covers major international events, the politics, economy, history, culture, and customs of countries around the world (with a focus on the U.S.). It not only helps improve students' listening skills but also broadens their knowledge.
The Student's Book includes vocabulary lists, cultural background notes, and exercises. Before using the book, students should familiarize themselves with the vocabulary lists and read the cultural background notes. The exercises are typically divided into two categories: "General Comprehension" and "Focusing on Details." The exercises in the first category should be completed after listening to the recording once. The exercises in the second category can be done after replaying the recording one or two more times.
The Teacher's Book includes recorded materials, exercises with answers, and supplementary reading materials. To facilitate classroom use, exercises with answers are printed after each section of the written materials. The reading materials are directly excerpted from major U.S. newspapers, magazines, or reference books, based on the significant events covered in each lesson. They not only provide additional background knowledge but often also elaborate on the recorded materials. Therefore, teachers can select important content to introduce to students when they encounter comprehension difficulties due to a lack of background knowledge.
