Features: In response to the national conditions of opening up and the new demands for alignment with the international financial industry, China's financial sector has raised the requirements for the English proficiency of its employees. After the implementation of the civil servant system, English training and assessment have become indispensable. The "Financial English" series of textbooks emerged in this context. It has been highly valued by the financial system and has been designated by the People's Bank of China as a research project within the system. The writing and publication of this series of textbooks aim to meet the urgent need for professional English textbooks for financial professionals and students in related fields. On one hand, it helps general readers comprehensively master financial English knowledge and skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. On the other hand, it provides an important reference for candidates taking the civil servant system's financial English examination. The "Financial English" series is divided into four parts—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—with a total of six books. The textbooks cover a wide range of topics, including banking, investment, insurance, leasing, and more, in addition to the essential cultural background knowledge indispensable for financial professionals. The texts and exercises are written in natural, standardized, and highly professional English. The key points, difficulties, and background knowledge of each lesson are clearly explained in the text notes. Answers to exercises and translated texts of the lessons are provided at the end of each book. Listening is one of the fundamental skills in English teaching. Through years of teaching experience, we have found that most students and financial professionals with a certain level of English proficiency have significantly weaker listening and speaking skills compared to their reading abilities. Therefore, the listening course we have developed starts at a relatively lower level. We hope to explore a new path in English teaching for students and financial professionals in relevant institutions. Based on our years of English teaching experience, individuals who lack listening and speaking skills tend to forget the English knowledge they have previously learned. However, possessing certain listening and speaking abilities is not only necessary for university students but also for the work of financial professionals—it is also an important means of mastering a language. Given this situation, we have written a listening course with 80 lessons. In compiling this listening course, we followed the principle of integrating knowledge, practicality, thoughtfulness, and interest. The language is standardized, and the content is fresh. The first 40 lessons focus on listening comprehension, numerals, simple dialogues, letters, and common abbreviations used in the financial industry. The last 40 lessons progress to an intermediate level, emphasizing practice in understanding vocabulary and sentence structures related to financial business, as well as the monetary systems of the United States and the United Kingdom, national, economic news reports, and cultural background knowledge. This book includes a student's book and a teacher's book. For convenience of use, each lesson in the student's book has a vocabulary list. The teacher's book, in addition to the written materials for the recordings and exercise answers, also provides some reference translations and notes. This book is not only suitable for self-study and meets the needs of financial professionals but also serves as a specialized listening course for English teachers and students in major universities and colleges in China.
