Features: This book is a continuation of the "College English" series (Volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4) compiled by Hu Wenzhong, Yang Limin, and others from Beijing Foreign Studies University, designed for advanced undergraduate reading courses in college English. At the advanced level, reading courses should focus on enhancing students' self-learning abilities, independently resolving linguistic and contextual difficulties using dictionaries and other reference materials, and accurately understanding the text and the author's perspectives. Therefore, the annotations in this book are kept concise, generally including only background knowledge that is difficult to find in students' existing reference materials. Some linguistic or contextual difficulties are addressed in the "Exercises" section, where students are required to provide answers, and are not listed as "Annotations." Since advanced students cannot complete many exercises in or outside of class, only three sections are designed: (1) True-or-False questions focusing on content comprehension; (2) exercises to test students' understanding of linguistic difficulties; (3) some discussion questions. Most of the articles selected for this book have been tried and tested in the English Department of Beijing Foreign Studies University.
