Features: This book is divided into five parts. , the first two parts are designed for candidates to read in detail, the third part is for extensive reading, the fourth part carefully prepares three sets of tests (including reading comprehension questions) for candidates to assess their own level, and the fifth part analyzes and summarizes the problem-solving strategies for reading comprehension, which is highly popular among candidates.The book has been designed with corresponding sections in each part. The first part selects 100 articles covering common themes in postgraduate entrance exams, providing translations and annotations for difficult and long sentences. Among them, 80 articles are categorized into postgraduate vocabulary and other vocabulary, designed for candidates to read in detail and use for comprehensive review of reading comprehension, translation, cloze, and writing. The specific steps for detailed reading are as follows:
(1) Read an article and complete the questions within 12-15 minutes.
(2) Compare the answers but do not rush to read the explanations. Think about why you answered correctly or incorrectly on your own.
(3) Read the explanations and pay attention to the differences between your problem-solving approach and the one in the explanations. Summarize the patterns and correct your own thinking.
(4) Identify the difficult and long sentences in the article, clarify the main structure of the sentence, and then analyze and understand the sentence based on the context of the previous and next sentences. If the understanding of the long sentence feels awkward, translate it yourself and then compare it with the translation and annotations or the explanation of the sentence (all translations of long sentences can be found in these two parts). Never just translate it verbally.
(5) Focus on memorizing the postgraduate vocabulary and phrases (vocabulary is arranged in the order of appearance). We selected these words based on the syllabus but are more concerned with their usage frequency. The meanings of these words have also been carefully chosen. Candidates must be familiar with these words and their meanings. We also recommend that candidates try to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words in the article before looking at the vocabulary list. The author does not recommend candidates to memorize other words listed in the vocabulary.
(6) If the content of an article involves knowledge that is unfamiliar to candidates, they should also summarize and understand the content from a knowledge perspective.
(7) Select some good sentence patterns and phrases from the article for memorization, for use in writing, but keep it concise and selective.
The second part is the new reading comprehension questions. The guidance in this section is only a summary of the problem-solving strategies. When reading the explanations in the third section, candidates must constantly summarize the problem-solving clues based on the summary in this section.
The third part consists of 17 sets of tests, primarily for extensive reading. It is recommended that candidates complete each set within 50-60 minutes. After each set of questions, there are explanations, which are intended to provide a brief overview. The rest is left for candidates to think and summarize on their own. This part aims to further improve candidates' reading skills, expand their knowledge, and increase their vocabulary. Candidates do not need to read the articles in detail, just use them as practice for reading comprehension. Of course, candidates should spend more time on articles that are more difficult or newer in content.
The fourth part includes 3 sets of mock tests and explanations, which include new reading comprehension questions. After training in both detailed and extensive reading, candidates can comprehensively assess their level in this section. Therefore, we recommend that candidates complete each set within 75-85 minutes, which will not only assess their performance but also check if their time management exceeds the required limits. Candidates should evaluate their own level based on the average score of these 3 sets of tests.
The fifth part provides a detailed analysis of the characteristics of reading comprehension questions in past exams. Based on summarizing past exam questions, it explains and analyzes problem-solving strategies through examples, training candidates in reading comprehension skills for exams, helping them grasp important information needed for answering questions, and cultivating their ability to guess the meaning of words based on context. The author suggests that candidates first read this part before reading the other sections.
