Features: "Practical French Interpreting (Level 2)" is designed and written according to the requirements of the "National Translation Professional Qualification (Level) Examination" interpreting syllabus. Based on years of interpreting practice and teaching experience, the authors, starting from the of interpreting activities, take thematic modules as the main thread and practice as the focus, supplemented by appropriate skill explanations and vocabulary expansion. The aim is to expose learners to a wide range of interpreting topics and challenges as much as possible, enabling them to adapt to the needs of real-world work. The content of this textbook is extensive, covering fields such as politics, diplomacy, society, culture, economy, finance, trade and economic relations, law, and environmental protection. It aims to help learners familiarize themselves with basic vocabulary and common terminology in these fields, master the main techniques and methods of consecutive interpreting, and thereby further improve their interpreting skills, preparing them for the interpreting qualification examination. The textbook consists of 16 units, each comprising the following sections: discourse interpreting, interpreting techniques, vocabulary expansion, and interpreting practice. At the end of all 16 units, reference translations are provided for both discourse interpreting and interpreting practice. Discourse interpreting includes one French-to-Chinese and one Chinese-to-French discourse each. The explanation of each discourse includes three parts: vocabulary preview, interpreting discourse, and interpreting commentary. The vocabulary preview lists the more challenging words, phrases, and sentences in the discourse, allowing learners to preview and memorize these difficulties using reference materials and other resources before translating the entire discourse. This process is similar to the vocabulary preparation an interpreter would do before engaging in actual interpreting activities based on the topic. Since learners have a preliminary understanding of the difficulties in the discourse, they can focus more of their energy on handling techniques and expression during interpreting training. After completing the interpreting exercises, learners should carefully read the interpreting commentary, flexibly grasp the relevant theories and techniques mentioned, and repeatedly refine and improve their own translations until they are satisfied. We recommend that learners do not immediately read the reference translations after completing interpreting exercises but rather compare their own translations with the reference translations after reviewing the commentary and refining their own versions. Only in this way can learners improve through independent thinking, drawing inspiration from the better expressions and translation methods in the reference translations, and achieve continuous progress.
