My daughter is 2 years old and her platelet count is 800. Why is it so high?

Patient's question:

Yesterday, it was found that my daughter's platelet count is high, over 800. What could be the cause? What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

Platelet>400×10^9/L, is referred to as thrombocytosis. It is commonly seen in myeloproliferative disorders. Reactive thrombocytosis is often associated with acute or chronic inflammation, iron deficiency anemia, and cancer patients. In this type of thrombocytosis, the platelet count generally does not exceed 500×10^9/L, and the platelet count will decrease rapidly after the condition improves with treatment. After splenectomy, platelet counts can rise significantly, often exceeding 600×10^9/L. If the elevated platelet count is related to certain diseases, treatment should target the underlying cause. If treatment is successful, the platelet count typically returns to normal levels.
