Human Words

Author: Wang Guowei (Author) / Wu Yang (Annotation)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: Since its first printing in 1908, Recurring Dreams of Human Life has been published in numerous versions, often edited and revised. Inheriting the traditional form of Chinese literary criticism, Recurring Dreams of Human Life consists of fragmented thoughts and sudden flashes of inspiration, where the most brilliant lines are born. Therefore, the manuscript edition preserves to a great extent the authenticity of the writing, holding an irreplaceable value compared to the numerous revised editions that have been compiled into a relatively coherent system. Unfortunately, Wang Guowei's manuscript has long been buried in the Golden Treasury (now stored in the National Library of China), inaccessible to many readers. As a result, the editors of this book have meticulously reorganized and annotated the manuscript based on Mr. Teng Xianhui's New Annotations to Recurring Dreams of Human Life and Mr. Fu Chui's Revised Recurring Dreams of Human Life, publishing this Complete Edition of the Manuscript of Recurring Dreams of Human Life. It aims to present the original form of Wang Guowei's manuscript to the readers. It is believed that this Complete Edition of the Manuscript of Recurring Dreams of Human Life will provide readers with firsthand materials to grasp the development of Wang Guowei's literary theory, while also offering a shortcut for readers to appreciate classical Chinese literary works. The Complete Edition of the Manuscript of Recurring Dreams of Human Life is divided into two parts: the first part is the original manuscript of Wang Guowei's Recurring Dreams of Human Life. The second part is the appendix, which includes Appendix I: scattered remarks on literature by Wang Guowei outside of Recurring Dreams of Human Life, compiled by Mr. Zhao Wanli, Mr. Chen Naiquan, and Mr. Xu Dioufu, and later organized by Mr. Teng Xianhui. Appendix II: Wang Guowei's Brief Thoughts on Literature. Appendix III: Wang Guowei's essay The Literary Spirit of Quzi. This book offers literary and aesthetic perspectives on critical reviews, annotations, and appreciations of outstanding classical Chinese literary works.
