Writing horror novels might be a fate I was born to, sometimes I feel like a dead person telling stories to the living. It's not to scare people, but to reveal the truth.
—Li Ximeng, Western People Weekly
Li Ximeng does not deliberately create gory scenes or play with false tension. The horror in his novels is like the endless rainy season in his stories—it seeps slowly into the reader's heart. It is damp and lingering; once it grabs hold of you, it's hard to shake off. It's as if you've fallen into the depths of a nightmare. Even if you struggle fiercely, the darkness around you remains, and only you stand in it. Thus, Li Ximeng's novels truly prove, to some extent, the fear of human existence, and reading becomes aivative of fear—trembling.
