Liang Qichao evaluated Zeng Guofan as follows: "His entire life's success lay in his determination to rise above the common crowd, to learn through hardship, and to strive through perseverance. Despite enduring countless hardships without yielding, he sought no immediate results but accumulated bit by bit, embracing humility and driving himself with diligence; he planted himself firmly and upheld steadfastness with perseverance, teaching by sincerity, and striving with vigor. Such was his character."
