Features: Basic concepts and principles in science are often simple. But simplicity is not superficial; it means depth, it means a concise outline of rich facts, it means striking at the core with precision. The Chinese Confucianism, which emphasizes moral integrity, has always stressed the principle of "extending one's own feelings to others." "Do not impose on others what you do not wish for yourself" is called "reciprocity"; "do to others what you wish for yourself" is called "benevolence." Those who criticize others from a moral standpoint must first consider this principle. Buddhism speaks of: "Conditioned origination, emptiness of nature." A person is not necessarily "naturally" anything; emptiness of nature means "non-existence." Markets and systems are connections formed by thousands of people; conditioned origination means "existence." Buddhism also distinguishes between "worldly existence" and "subtle existence." Some connections of humans are simply "malevolent," while the market system, when well-managed, can be both worldly and subtle—worldly in efficiency, subtle in that efficiency can also be moral.
