How long can hyperbaric oxygen therapy be done?

Patient's question:

The baby has hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and I am giving him hyperbaric oxygen therapy. I have already done it for 7 days, rested for 5 days, and then did another 7 days. Some people say that too much oxygen is not good either. I want to know how many days constitute a course of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, how many days should be rested, and how many days of rest are needed before it can be done again.

Doctor's answer:

The duration of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for each disease depends on the nature of the disease and individual differences. For ordinary limb injuries, the survival of hypoxic and ischemic tissues can be observed within about two weeks; for cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease, after about a month, patients may find that discomfort in the anterior chest area decreases, and they may require less medication; but for neurological diseases such as brain injury, mild patients may recover within a week, while severe patients may need several months; for vegetative state, patients may be less likely to suffer pain. Treatment may sometimes last for more than half a year.
