Features: Modern China faced internal turmoil and external pressures, changing every decade, making it an exceptionally turbulent period. Its ups and downs were beyond the scope of mainstream history and ordinary experience. The editors focused on fragments of historical expressions, using details to reflect the essence and small incidents to provide insights into individuals. It was precisely these micro-behaviors that triggered reforms and led to China's rapid transformation over the century. In this book, the familiar grand narrative is absent, replaced only by small events, minor figures, and even rumors. Perhaps it is these fragments, anecdotes, and marginal materials that offer a clear historical account, revealing hidden truths and allowing us to inadvertently grasp the opportunities of revolution, discern the mysteries of history, and glimpse the alternative face of China in the past century. This book captures the actions, words, and thought fragments of various figures during the turbulent period of modern times, organized around historical themes such as sorrowful winds, twilight, reform, republic, enlightenment, formidable figures, revolution, national crisis, resistance, and liberation. Its history to details, brings characters back to their humanity, and allows us to witness the fluctuations of a hundred years of China, in hopes of discovering the hidden driving forces that changed the course of history. The approach to discussing history in this book is ingenious and serves as a unique text for peering into the truth of history.
