Wang Wei, styled Mojie, was a native of Qiqi, Taiyuan. He was born in the first year of the reign of Empress Wu in Chang'an and died in the second year of the Shaozong era. He came from a bureaucratic landlord family, with his high, great-grandfather, and father all serving as Sima. His family moved to Pu from his father onwards. His younger brother, Wang Jin, served as the prime minister of Emperor Daizong. Wang Wei was a versatile talent, skilled in poetry, painting, and music.
