Features: Braudel was a solitary figure, yet an object of veneration for many. To call him solitary is because he emphasized the need to overcome the fragmentation in the social sciences and achieve a universal grand synthesis, but to this day, it seems not entirely successful. To call him influential is because he was too successful, attracting too much attention and making it difficult for others to surpass him; his impact can be felt worldwide. Braudel's historical thought and methodology were immensely influential. His holistic view of history and the concept of the long duration not only became the cornerstone theory of the Annales School but also transcended disciplinary boundaries, exerting extensive and profound influence on various fields of the humanities.
