In the summer of 1962, he graduated from the Chinese Painting Landscape Department of the Fine Arts College of Beijing Art College. In the same autumn, he joined the Beijing Palace Museum to engage in the copying and research of ancient calligraphy and painting, which he continues to this day. Professor Liu Bingsen is a renowned calligrapher and painter both domestically and internationally. Even in his youth, he was celebrated in Japan. His landscape paintings emphasize the use of calligraphic brushwork in painting, with a style that is rustic and profound. However, for many years, his fame as a painter has been overshadowed by his reputation as a calligrapher. His calligraphy is renowned for its skill in clerical script and regular script, and he is also proficient in running script and cursive script. With deep traditional foundations, his calligraphic style is thick and steady yet elegant and unrestrained. His published works have a total circulation of over two million copies and have exerted a wide influence both domestically and internationally. His achievements in the art of calligraphy are well-known and praised by calligraphers worldwide, and he enjoys a high reputation both domestically and internationally. His clerical script, built on solid traditional foundations, fully demonstrates his creativity. With a modern aesthetic sense and incorporating certain rhythms and interests from related arts, coupled with his literary cultivation, he has formed a distinctive personal style, standing alone in contemporary Chinese calligraphy, and is known as the "Liu Style Clerical Script." In May 1990, he was awarded the "Fujisan Art Award" by Japan. He is currently a researcher at the Beijing Palace Museum, vice president of the China Calligraphers Association, a member of the evaluation committee of the Singapore Chinese Calligraphy Association, a council member of the China-Japan Friendship Association, a member of the China-Japan Friendship 21st Century Committee, and a standing committee member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
