The Feeling of Xiuhang – Thoughts on Combat

Author: Fujisawa Shuho, Grandmaster from Japan

Features: What summarizes the essence of this series is "combat." Go is a game of occupying space, and if one can win with an advantage in actual territory without fighting, that would of course be ideal. The famous quote from the "Art of War" by Sun Tzu is "Know your enemy and know yourself, and you need not fear the result of a hundred battles." However, although the Go board is small, knowing oneself and one's opponent is not easy. Go is a face-to-face combat between two people. If one gains an advantage in understanding the state of the game before the opponent, the combat can unfold favorably. From the opening to the mid-game, the combat that leads to victory or defeat becomes increasingly intense. This book divides the types of combat into three chapters. Since combat is complex and divergent, it should logically be divided more finely, but common examples are included in each chapter, so please understand this point. This series of books is organized and collected in the form of "My Next Move." This format cannot be said to be the best, but please understand that it reflects my thoughts and my sense.
