Patient's question:
I have kidney stones, and I am taking Jing Shi Ling capsules. How many days does it take to recover?Doctor's answer:
Hello: Nephrolithiasis - Diagnosis Confirmed; Generally, small and medium-sized stones in patients often show no symptoms, while only larger stones can cause discomfort or pain in the waist. It is recommended to first choose - extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for stone removal treatment; and to start early treatment as soon as possible, as the effect of stone removal is better.First, it should be explained that extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a non-invasive, new type of stone removal treatment equipment and technology. Compared to extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, the principles of the two are completely different. The advantage of ESWL lies in its lack of any damage to organs, thorough stone removal, and minimal pain for patients, making it easily accepted. In contrast, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy can cause organ damage and is more painful.
The ESWL technology adopts a high-frequency superconducting fluid dynamic vibration three-dimensional integrated stone removal technology, assisted by large digital ultrasound for positioning. It features accurate positioning, fast stone removal, and effective treatment of bile duct stones, ureteral stones, allowing stones to be removed as they are passed. It is particularly effective in completely removing from intrahepatic bile ducts. The most prominent feature of this equipment is its humanized operability, thorough stone removal for various types of stones, wide range of indications, almost no side effects on the human body, painless stone removal process, generally no need for hospitalization, and low treatment costs, making it easily accepted by patients. It is a reliable, effective, simple, and practical treatment device with unique equipment and technical advantages. Therefore, it is the best choice for treating various types of stones.
ESWL is the best indication for renal and ureteral stones under 10mm. For larger stones, the principle of first crushing and then removing stones can be adopted to achieve complementary advantages. Whether it is small stones or multiple larger stones, due to the widespread use of ultrasound, early diagnosis of renal stones is relatively timely. Newly formed small stones are generally detected early, providing the best indication and timing for ESWL stone removal treatment. At the same time, it is also more important to provide the latest measures for early stone removal treatment, avoiding excessive treatment methods that cause significant organ damage, poor efficacy, pain, and high costs.

The indications and scope of treatment for ESWL are as follows:
(1) For various renal and ureteral stones less than 1.2 cm, ESWL should be the first choice for stone removal treatment. This is because it causes no kidney damage, ensures thorough stone removal, is safe and painless, and avoids the side effects of shock wave lithotripsy. If the stone diameter is greater than 1.2 cm, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy should be used first to crush the stone, followed by ESWL for thorough stone removal, achieving complementary advantages.
(2) This equipment is particularly suitable for acute ureteral stones and the hydronephrosis, renal pelvic dilation, ureteral hydronephrosis, ureteral dilation, and renal colic they cause. It can quickly remove ureteral stones, relieve pain immediately, and rapidly alleviate the above symptoms, making it the preferred treatment for ureteral stones.
(3) For patients with multiple renal stones complicated by contralateral ureteral stones, the ureteral stones should be removed first, followed by the removal of multiple renal stones, to prevent the formation of a "stone street" in the ureter.
(4) For large renal stones that remain in the lower pole of the kidney pelvis or calyces after ESWL fragmentation, these small stones are the best indication for ESWL for thorough stone removal. This is because the handheld high-frequency superconducting shock head can directly touch the stones in the lower pole of the kidney, moving them into the renal pelvis and ureter for removal.
(5) For the stone removal treatment of the above various stone diseases, if complicated by urinary tract infections leading to pyelonephritis, ureteritis, cystitis, prostatitis, urethritis, etc., due to inflammatory congestion and swelling of the mucosa affecting stone removal, antibiotic anti-inflammatory treatment must be given first. ESWL stone removal treatment can only be performed after the inflammation subsides.
(6) Generally, 1-3 ESWL treatments are sufficient to completely remove stones, with a duration of 5-7 days. Patients in good physical condition can undergo continuous stone removal treatment, while those with poorer physical health can have one treatment every other day. If there are poor urinary functions or infections, the hospitalization period may be longer. According to clinical observations, Professor Chen Bangjing believes that ESWL is the leading new technology for treating stones domestically and internationally, being the preferred method for treating renal, ureteral (ureteral stones are generally removed within two hours), gallbladder, and extrahepatic bile duct stones, as well as intrahepatic bile duct stones. Its completely thorough stone removal effect, lack of any organ side effects, and low cost have brought benefits to a wide range of patients. For stones beyond the scope of ESWL, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy should be performed first, followed by stone removal. For large renal cast stones and gallstones, surgical stone removal should be considered as soon as they are detected.
