Features: Alberto Sartoris is one of the main founders of modern architecture: also one of the founders of the International Congress of Modern Architecture (CIAM), the designer of the Italian Rationalist architecture, and he also helped establish the Italian Modern Architecture Movement (MIAR) and initiated the Functionalism architectural movement. His significant contributions to the European modernist architectural movement and his lifelong architectural practice have established his important position in the history of 20th-century architecture. Sartoris's architectural practice and writings reflect his architectural theory, although they do not conform to the fashionable standards adopted by the leading figures of Italian avant-garde architecture. He tirelessly advocated for the provision of affordable housing for the lower strata of society. He guided in-depth research on low-cost housing, believing that everyone has the right to a decent place to live and further recognizing that this is not just an architectural issue but also a social and political issue. Low cost does not guarantee the fulfillment of a family's basic living needs, so he believed that designing to meet people's greatest needs in the future is a challenging task for architects. Sartoris's low-cost single-family and collective designs date back to 1925, with his most famous project being the collaboration with Giuseppe Terragni to design buildings in the Rebbio District of Como.
