To the west of the Pearl River, since the Qing Dynasty, it has been renowned as a hub of humanistic excellence. During the late Qing period, the styles of Tongcheng prose and Changzhou ci flourished, taking root and bearing fruit. Since then, they have spread far and wide, even competing for prominence in the imperial court. By the modern era, Guangxi has produced a succession of cultural luminaries, excelling in history, classics, poetry, and cultural education, demonstrating deep roots and flourishing branches. This has forged the cornerstone of modern academic culture in Guangxi, creating a magnificent spectacle.
Facing such a rich cultural heritage, as the only university press in Guangxi, we feel a solemn duty to contribute to the promotion and development of local culture. Based on this understanding, we have published this series, "Selected Academic Works of Modern Guangxi Cultural Figures," selecting the works of Ma Junwu, Lei Peihong, Liang Suming, Wang Li, Feng Zhen, and Luo Ergang. We have curated their academic essence, striving to present their full academic profiles in a concise format to benefit future scholars. All six are top scholars in modern Chinese culture. Their influence extends not only within Guangxi and China but also to overseas. This profound impact is not confined to the present but will undoubtedly be passed down through generations. Among them, Wang Li's contributions to Chinese language studies, Liang Suming's profound insights into Chinese thought and culture, and Luo Ergang's exploration of modern Chinese history are all unparalleled, holding irreplaceable positions in their fields. Similarly, Ma Junwu's brilliant literary talent, Lei Peihong's achievements in educational theory, and Feng Zhen's deep understanding of poetry are extraordinary, each leading their own eras.
There are many modern cultural figures in Guangxi, but we chose these six due to their significant influence and the broadness of their academic and cultural domains. The compilers are also scholars with expertise in their respective fields. We believe that with their professional knowledge, they possess a unique perspective, achieving a balance between depth and brevity, and compiling this series into a representative and academically rigorous collection of selected works.
