Confusion and Exploration (Thoughts of a Composer)

Publish Date: 2003-03-01
Features: The book collects approximately 60 articles written by the author during two periods in the 1980s and 1990s. It is divided into two parts: the "Doubtful Period" and the "Exploration Period"; with two additional appendices—"Family Bonds" and "Inspiration." The "Doubtful Period" is selected, supplemented, and revised from the author's previous book The Composer's Doubts, mostly completed in the 1980s. The "Exploration Period" is newly compiled for this collection, primarily written in the 1990s. The "Family Bonds" is a personal "confession" in the spiritual realm, with a strong emotional tone. The "Inspiration" is a selection of reviews on the author's major works from the international and domestic music circles, as well as excerpts from letters by teachers and friends. The composer uses music to replace words, while the critics interpret the music with words. Though their methods differ, they both stem from the same source! With one pen writing scores and another pen writing articles, this has become an inevitable part of the author's life. So, the author simply writes as nature takes its course, regardless of conventions!
