Does phimosis always require treatment?

Patient's question:

I have always had phimosis. Now I have a girlfriend, and we are living together. Recently, my mom found out I have a girlfriend, and she urged me to go back and get the surgery to have my phimosis corrected. Mom is really quite nagging. Is it necessary for men to get treated for phimosis if they have it?

Doctor's answer:

Phimosis and excessive prepuce do not hinder sexual activity or fertility, so they are not considered a genital disorder. In fact, this view is not scientific. This is because, whether it is phimosis or excessive prepuce, both can cause certain harm to the body.
Guidelines:
Therefore, if there is phimosis, paraphimosis, or recurrent balanoposthitis, undergoing a circumcision is the most appropriate choice.
